They tell you lovers ain't ever worth deceiving When aspirations bend and swell Don't sell your soul 'till you know where it's going But I say it's too hard to tell You found out living is dissonance and heartache Because it came conditional The disappointment's in knowing you lost it When you found something to sell Never cared too much for the money It's all the indecision of why We're coming back to the truth Or the reason we both drew near I'm in love with the seasons But they're still changing dear Well your father, he disagreed with reason Your mother's love could not contend With the stream of degradation that's flowing It poisons the words in your head Go tell your lover she's beautiful in ballgowns Tell her you want to make her heart fall Don't say you're humble if the ghost you're fleeing Has got you backed against the wall Never cared too much for the money It's all the indecision of why We're coming back to the truth Or the reason we both drew near I'm in love with the seasons But they're still changing dear I can't separate it No I can't separate it This hopeless endeavor we'd both exchange I'm in love with you honey but I can't explain The truth of the matter when we're counting costs We're locked in this fever and lost I can't separate it No I can't separate it I can hear you when you're whispering softly I can feel the way you're moving trembling love I can see you Lover hold me now

Oh my friend it's so hard to see you so down Commiserating, it's complicated I've found Ain't no aeroplane ride to take you where you need When your lover's arms make your fingernails bleed Sure, they're strong and they're full of emotion But suffocating in their devotion You weren't old enough to love her like you could now Beautiful girl who wrote you letters, you didn't need her around You've been prayin' for this year to be over Heaven's been calling you when you were sober Cryin' late at night in the seat of your car Seems like Heaven ain't been calling you so far The leaves are falling, the tree limbs exposed They blanket the ground so that green things can grow Arms extending, your limbs exposed Your lips are parting, you're getting older The lines on your face, while they gently impose Love, the pressure's abating You're getting older The leaves are falling, the tree limbs exposed They blanket the ground so that green things can grow Arms extending, your limbs exposed Your lips are parting, you're getting older The lines on your face, while they gently impose Love, the pressure's abating You're getting older You're falling asleep with your skin exposed Neath these knotted sheets, yeah you're getting older You're getting older, You're getting older You're getting older, You're getting older You're getting older, You're getting older You're getting older, You're getting older You're getting older, You're getting older You're getting older, We're getting older too

What's in the bones when the marrow is gone? Is it lost to ex-lovers and dead friends? When the leaves of wire sing their beautiful song Would you rest a little easier my friend? What's in the bones when the marrow is gone? Is it lost to ex-lovers and dead friends? When the leaves of wire sing their beautiful song Would you rest a little easier my friend? Would you rest a little easier my friend? Would you rest a little easier my friend? What's in the bones when the marrow is gone? Is it lost to ex-lovers and dead friends? When the leaves of wire sing their beautiful song Would you rest a little easier my friend? Would you rest a little easier my friend? Would you rest a little easier my friend?

Brother 00:59
Brother Brother, where have you been? We've been waiting on your weary grin This tired soul to dissipate With creeping tongues and withered faith Rasping breaths and a cloudy head They say it ain't no way to live Brother Brother, where are you now? He's sick with waiting

Cry out on a cold April evening Fingers tremble as she runs to the fold A gentle whisper, no it ain't so soothing When his hands are too still to hold Sterile walls and the chill exceeding Cold metal instruments piercing his gut Tenderly brushing the hair from his forehead Hoping the warmth in her hands are enough Time is a demon Time is a savior And it's a damn shame It's a damn shame Gave up my vices and chased all my saviors away Chased all my saviors away Chased all my saviors away Slower breathing, slower beating Prayin' to Jesus for some kind of hope Fifty years ain't but faces and voices But a lovers touch can make the days go slow Time is a demon Time is a savior And it's a damn shame It's a damn shame Gave up my vices and chased all my saviors away Chased all my saviors away Chased all my saviors away Days get warmer, she sits by the window Silence hangs heavy in an empty home All of the years that they laughed and wandered Never wanted to spend the last ones alone

I've never been to New York City But the thought has got me wondr'in If my life will ever take me there someday Maybe there I'd meet somebody Who would teach me how to fall in love Like the movie stars and writers wish they Wish they could talk about when nights get colder Spending lonely evenings gettin' older day by day Shivering in the cold and empty Thinking if this don't change then we'll wither away Mmm that feeling's seeping into your bones Thinking anything is better than alone I can tell you're growing weary And I guess that makes the two of us We'd always thought we'd work it out someday You're frustration ain't so pretty When you're trying to remember How the hell we even got here anyway The dusty tattered picture frames Of memories long forgotten on the other side of the road Teardrops falling trying to remember Voices screaming saying, You don't have to do this alone But naturally on deaf ears they may fall And we wonder if it's worth the say at all Oh darling I know you're tired of the way things seem to be But I'm beggin' please don't give up on this now I never want to end up like those movie stars you see All alone and broken down With their softly flickering fireplaces Hangin' onto shadows fading, tryin' to ease their minds But bricks and mortar crumble As the wind and rain beat them down down over time Till all that's left is rubble and dust So I thank the Lord I never needed much I've never been to New York City But I've got a sneaking feeling If I packed my bags and went I'd see you there Well that ain't bad in theory But honey we both know If this winter's cold we're freezing as a pair Frost clouding the windowpane And cold breath whisp'ring maybe we weren't Meant to make it at all It feels like we've been frozen Since we burned out, and our ashes flew away A long time ago Never to be seen again

Quiet Down 04:30
Makeup stains on the carpet Opened her eyes to an empty bottle in her hand Shields her eyes from the bright lights Hears a voice in the corner calling her name Oh what to say It all came to her in a rush now Whole world broken, shattered like ice on the floor Who said I can't do this anymore She kept on shouting as the tears fall Flying accusations, the walls they shake at the sound Who said 'love, quiet down' You said you promised that you'd never leave me broken Stood their crying with a half empty bottle in her hand She said, 'I'm drowning out my sorrows at the bottom of this bottle But I'll scream till the sun goes down So no love, I won't quiet down' She threw both her hands up Exasperated she shouts, 'I don't know what to say' She said, 'We better say something Cause if we don't we'll fall apart all the same And then who's to blame' You said you promised that you'd never leave me broken But those were simply words and I don't think they mean a thing I know we're screaming and we're crying and it feels like we're dying But I know we'll make it out okay So please love, don't quiet down I know we're screaming and we're crying and it feels like we're dying But I know we'll make it out okay So please love, never quiet down Promise me love, never quiet down Promise me love, never quiet down

7,000 Miles 04:53
Gonna take that railroad, gonna travel by the street 7,000 miles from sea to shining sea Standing on a rooftop in the Tennessee sun Maybe we're just dreamers singing 'west coast here we come' Went down to Chicago, packed our bags got on that train Hear that Amtrak whistle blowing, windy city calling our names Across the trestle our dreams began to glide Voice in our head screams 'never felt so alive' All of our doubt, all of our fear We buried them deep in the ground Western skies calling out Won't catch us walking away Ooo Nothing left to hold us back All of our doubts, throw 'em away Away from me 'way from me now Went out to that desert land where Arizona waits Stood over that canyon, it'll take your breath away Onward to Hollywood where all the stars collide Just another rooftop o're them Angel City lights Up the coast to San Fransisco, sleepin in the streets Golden bridge above our heads and the ocean below our feet Through the mountains to Seattle and beyond Look out now, we're coming home All of our doubt, all of our fear We buried them deep in the ground Western skies calling out Won't catch us walking away Ooo Nothing left to hold us back All of our doubts, throw 'em away Away from me 'way from me now All of our doubt, all of our fear We buried them deep in the ground Western skies calling out Won't catch us walking away Ooo Nothing left to hold us back All of our doubts, throw 'em away Away from me 'way from me now

When the daylight grows soft and dim Will I fall into your arms Will we lie down in triumph again Lost in the din of your charms Darling refuge, your golden cascade Will usher us into the night Where we our affections persuade Bathing in glorious light Hearts applauding in thunderous waves Rises and shudders, I can't contain Your caress is too much For a heart unprepared to sustain In your heart can't you find A reason to salvage What love left behind The bitter and ravaged It's so hard When I'm afraid, I need you to hold me Stay by my side when I get lonely Shaking inside, I need you to show me Show me your tenderness, baby I'll follow When I'm afraid, I need you to hold me Stay by my side when I get lonely Shaking inside, I need you to show me Show me your tenderness Show me your tenderness Show me your tenderness

about

'Leaves of Wire' is my first full-length album full of songs born out of painful aches and tender moments. There are themes of loss, of love and bliss, of seeking meaning in both grief-stricken and joyous times. I wanted this to be a very human album - one in which folks might hear pieces of their lives played for them gently and thoughtfully. This is an album for messy relationships, dead friends, and muddled feelings. It is an album for late night talks on the porch on chilly evenings with close friends.

This album is for you.
